Experiences Out of the Body - Part 1

May 23rd, 2007 by John Wolfe

A few years ago I had an experience while meditating that shook the entire foundation of my reality. At that time in my life I was utilizing meditation to relax my nerves and to benefit from its calming effects. Nothing fancy- just lying on the bed, in the dark, in some loose clothing, while breathing deeply. I had been practicing my technique for a few weeks and was experiencing very positive results in the area of relaxing general anxiety.

On this particular night I began my meditative process as usual, but this time I slipped into a very deep state of relaxation with an unusual sense of ease. From that point on (during the same session) I continued reaching deeper and deeper states of relaxation. My entire body began to numb up, as if it had just been given a form of anesthesia. I enjoyed the sensation or should I say, the lack of sensation for quite some time- that is, until the buzzing began.

It started off quietly, as if in the distance, like a giant swarm of angry bees making their way towards me- growing closer and closer until the sound filled my ears. I began to tense up, but made a conscious effort to relax as much as possible and ride out the experience, no matter what it brought, in hopes of further investigation of the strange sound and sensations.

The buzzing continued until it felt as though my ears had reached full capacity and then the “swarm” began to pour down my face, and neck and throughout my body. It’s a strange sensation- being unable to move your limbs, yet being aware of a feeling of buzzing and vibrating throughout every aspect of your arms, legs and trunk. My entire body literally began vibrating in sync with the sound pouring out of my ears.

The sensation worked its way up my spine and into the base of my skull in a gentle, yet somewhat determined manner, causing my head to slightly rock back and forth on my pillows. After a few more seconds the vibrations and buzzing subsided, almost as quickly as they came upon me. I lay there, waiting…

Then, my entire consciousness, for lack of a better phrase, just faded out. I felt myself slipping into an area of mind or being that I had never consciously tapped into before. It migrated into a feeling of everything I am, at my core, being melded into something larger. As I write this, I struggle for words to accurately describe these sensations. After encountering it though, I never again doubted whether or not we survive physical death.

The next shift in my awareness was an intense sensation of the bed and floor being ripped out from under me. I felt as though I (whatever I was at this point) was free falling into some deep crevasse. It was here that I began to contemplate whether I was actually experiencing death, or the possibility I had already passed on in my meditative state. Panic set in, but my curiosity and fascination won out. I pressed on.

While continuing to feel as though I was falling, another odd sensation began. The point of awareness that seemed to be where my physical head is located, started to expand into every corner of the room and beyond. It felt as though my consciousness was filling up every aspect of physical space. While these two situations progressed, I became aware of a third sensation occurring simultaneously to the first two. The aspect of consciousness that felt like my physical body began shrinking and “rolling in” upon itself, like a window shade wrapping up tight. This continued until I felt no larger than a grain of sand.

These three separate, but simultaneous sensations were beyond anything I had ever encountered. The experience crossed over into sensory overload, combined with a growing fear that I would become completely lost in whatever environment I was venturing into. I decided, if possible, to force myself out of that state. It truly felt like trying to shake myself awake from within a deep sleep, though I was absolutely certain I never drifted into a sleep state.

As I found my bearings and become fully aware of my physical environment, I noticed a thud or jarring sensation, as if I had been a few feet out of alignment with my physical body during the entire experience. Once I reined my consciousness back in and began to focus on my physical self, it seemed as if I had been dropped against the bed. And just like that I was back in my room.

I’ll close this entry for now. If you are interested in learning more about astral projection and how to achieve an out of body experience- you can check out Techniques for Achieving an OBE. Also, please join me for: Experiences Out of the Body - Part 2, later this week.

I’m just being blown away right now by the enties I’m finding. This one though, WOW, I’ve gotta share this thought with you. I’m not at all a label sort of person but there seem to be simular experiences we are all having in a much different way, yet the same. As soon as I started reading about the buzzing/vibrating sensations you had but then you could feel this energy rising from the base of your spine to the bottom of your skull….in my opinion from what I’ve learned about my own “awakening” symptoms, this sounds like the classic Kundalini Awakening.

When the Kundalini activation permeates the body a chain reaction builds. This can happen very quickly or slow depending on the acceptance and surrender of the person. A feeling of powerful energies begins to build at the base of the spine and as they increase a pressure forms at this base until it gives way like a dam bursting. Exquisite energies then sweep up the spinal column causing the head to immediately be wrapped in a swirling mass of energy. Sensations of tiny electric currents are felt just below the scalp zipping and fizzing their way around the head and often spreading through out the body. The back and forth motion of your head sounds like the swirling of the energy around your skull. I commend you for surrendering into the moment John!!

Also, an inner HUM begins to be percieved. In your case you were actually AWARE of the buzzing coming AT YOU which is most rare. In my own case, I woke INTO the buzzing. Some people have reported seeing streamers of light fountaining out the top of their head around them. The top of the head at the fontanel can become an organ of vision. A feeling of completion can pervade the body as the energy begins to fill the cranial spaces with a golden white light that is viewed with eyes closed but looking up. Not all see light or the same color to the light, of course. Some minor spastic movements and jerking of the body is felt as the Kundalini completes its initial foray in and around the body. Your sudden slamming motion back into awareness sounds very simular to the completion of your activation….so to speak. To a degree the veil that separates us from the Divine Reality, the true reality, has been lifted, but not completely, as it is understood that you still have to function in a body and in the physical world.

You may begin to experience the skills and attributes of the awakened individual i.e. telepathic skills, seeing peoples thoughts or emotions, astral projection, remote viewing or sensing. These are only “lesser experiences” when encountering the Divine but should be mentioned. Remote viewing increased greatly with me as well as remote healing of Reiki treatments. I’ve also encounterd where many humans now are becoming naturally synchronized with each other and finishing each other’s thought with great ease.

I’m curious John, when exactly did this event take place? Was it in 2007? I’m thinking it was sooner than that for you. Your took place and had a better start to it than mine. Personally, I was being “activated” while standing and fully alert. I suddenly felt a huge, girthy penetration through the direct center of my skull, right into the seat of my soul, the pineal gland. It felt like it was being filled with something and my pineal felt like it was growing so rapidly, my brain was about to explode. The headache was tremendous and I fell to the floor in great pain, unable to move and not quite sure what was happening. From there, I crawled to the bed, lay down in tears and just tried to LET GO. Somehow, I drifted asleep and woke into lower back pain. I wish I knew then what was happening but if it was in the divine plan, it would have been so. The important thing now is that I AM AWARE, alert and feeding my activation and spiritaul evolution on a daily basis and then some.

I’m so happy I found this entry as well. I had no idea this happened to you. Truly incredible how I’m being guided today….amazing. Thank you for sharing this John.

    All My Best, Goldie~~~

    Goldie,

Thanks for your great reply! I have often thought about the possibility of these experiences being associated with Kundalini energy alongside astral projection, but I never researched Kundalini thoroughly.

Thank you for sharing much of the Kundalini symptoms. It’s interesting that a variety of what you mentioned is also considered quite common during out of body experiences. The event I described in this post was sometime in late 2003, early 2004.
