The Louise Hay: You Can Heal Your Life giveaway has closed. I’d like to congratulate Bonnie of Redding, California and Melissa of Oakdale, Minnesota. They each won the extended edition copy of You Can Heal Your Life. Don’t forget to check the Uplifting Prizes section, in the sidebar, for ongoing giveaways of self-help and spiritual items.

It’s been six months since Wind of the Soul first went online. And, ever since its inception, I’ve been planning to host uplifting giveaways. However, for a variety of reasons, the timing didn’t seem right, so I kept putting the project off. Well yesterday, while viewing Louise Hay’s movie, You Can Heal Your Life, I felt the urge to begin. Anytime I’m positively impacted by that visceral or gut feeling, I follow it.

This first giveaway features two DVD sets of You Can Heal Your Life: The Extended Edition to be given to two separate winners. The extended edition contains four hours of additional interview footage not included in the original version of the film.

You Can Heal Your Life follows a young woman along her journey to reinvent herself through the harnessing of her thoughts and actions. Her trials, tribulations and ultimate successes are mirrored in the dialogue of several spiritual and self-help teachers, throughout the film, including Louise Hay.

Along her path, she’s presented with opportunities, in the form of uplifting messages printed on index cards. Each card contains a piece of wisdom meant to embolden her spirit. The cards concentrate on three key points: change, forgiveness and love. The movie also outlines seven major steps for healing your life: the internal landscape of change, affirmations, challenges you may face along the path, testing the depth of your commitment, forgiveness, the hidden treasures at the center of yourself and learning to accept with gratitude.

I can honestly say I enjoyed the entire film immensely, but my favorite parts were when the speakers touched on the difficulties they’ve overcome in their own lives. I always find such stories to be inspiring and extremely uplifting.

While the movie features noted teachers like Wayne Dyer, Gregg Braden, and Esther Hicks; I was particularly drawn to the philosophies of several of the “lesser known” individuals, like Elon Bonami and Cheryl Richardson.

Cheryl made this poignant statement at one point in the film: “We all go through an evolutionary process, in our growth, where we start out wishing and hoping and believing the Universe is like Santa Claus. And, all you have to do is write your list up and you get what you want. But there’s a commitment to consciousness and action that’s necessary to be able to manifest the things that we affirm or we intend.”

Another great quote from the film was by Doreen Virtue: “People don’t realize their greatest potential because they think it’s from an outside source – when it’s so divinely ordained from within.”

Cheryl’s and Doreen’s statements are examples of what makes You Can Heal Your Life different from films like The Secret. The focus is more on consciousness and our inner power than it is on acquiring things. It’s implied that the “things” are a natural byproduct of the internal changes we make, but they shouldn’t be our sole reason for striving to make those changes. You Can Heal Your Life also focuses on Louise’s work to help others overcome life threatening illnesses, and includes the story of how she healed her own manifestation of cancer.

Good luck to everyone that enters. I’ll leave you with Louise’s initial words of wisdom from the film:

“All of us our on a journey, whether we know it or not. We are all on a journey of learning to express our full potential in this world. Most of us have learned to view our thoughts as a reflection of the outside world; a reflection of what is happening to us. But what if that’s not how the Universe works?

“What if you are creating the story of your life with the very thought you are thinking now? Then perhaps, if we are willing to change the way we think, wondrous new possibilities would begin to reveal themselves to us. And our lives would move in a whole new direction. It all starts with taking the first step.”

Guidelines for Entering

Please, only one entry per household. Duplicate entries from the same IP will be deleted. This helps to make it fairer for everyone. There’s no catch here, everything is free – including payment of shipping and handling of the You Can Heal Your Life DVD set – I cover all costs. To be entered, all you have to do is leave a comment below, signifying your interest.

We’ve all heard the adage – “good things come to those who wait”. I believe that phrase to be true, but there are far more components involved in any accomplishment than just waiting around for the passage of time. However, there’s no denying time is a huge part of the equation. It takes time + emotions + thoughts + consistent, persistent action to = results. If we can develop the capacity to understand the concept of patience, through understanding time’s role in the natural progression and processes of all living things, we will have made great strides in short-circuiting the “I want it now” mentality. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting something to occur faster, it’s important we don’t make that our constant modus operandi.

So very often, in the natural progression of life, rapid manifestation doesn’t occur and for good reason. Just as a sapling doesn’t become a giant sequoia overnight and a ten year old child can’t become a thirty year old adult in a week; neither can our hopes and dreams become instantaneous reality in an unreasonable amount of time. If we constantly expect instant gratification, yet it ceases to come at the rate we demand, we will continue to feel disappointment and frustration; eventually removing all of the necessary components from the above equation. And when that happens, there also will be very little sitting on the right side of the equal sign.

Instead, we must learn to focus on progress and the long term development of that which we intend to accomplish; paying close attention to the subtle changes along the journey. Small, subtle changes indicate momentum and progress towards that which we desire. While the sapling doesn’t immediately become a towering tree, it does develop noticeably throughout each and every year of its life. These smaller, but observable, measurable changes, accruing over time, are what lead to its eventual colossal state.

Thinking in the short term is almost always a recipe for quitting. When we think in the short term and things don’t initially develop in the manner we had hoped, we’re much more likely to give up. When we give up, we settle. The short term mindset causes us to trade in our dreams for something that appears to be a “sure thing”, albeit a diminished version of our initial hopes, because it’s only supplying us with a fake form of quick gratification. It’s quick because it’s convenient and it’s gratifying (only at first) because it appears to come easily.

A person, thinking primarily with a short term mindset, assumes why should I apply X amount of time, physical, emotional and thought energy toward achieving my dreams, at a future date – when I can have a facsimile of what I originally wanted to achieve right now? After all, my dreams were probably unrealistic anyway, right? This is the way in which so many of us talk ourselves into accepting dead end jobs, living in locations where we don’t truly want to live, walking around uncomfortable with our bodies, spending time in unhealthy relationships, settling for less income than we deserve, living with large debt looming over our heads, etc.

It’s a snowball effect that continues to grow, while we opt for less and less and less. We’ve done it so frequently (sometimes since childhood) that we eventually convince ourselves it’s wrong to want more and to have more and/or we just don’t deserve it. The short term mindset, coupled with a lack of belief in one’s self, unfortunately, is what puts far too many people on the fast track to a miserable existence. By trading in their dreams, they sacrifice their passion and succumb to coping and existing, instead of living intentionally.

When I speak of wanting more or our ability to feel deserving of it, I’m not necessarily referring to material items. I’m actually referring to our state of joy and our quality of life. The material items are only there as a form of enhancement, once we have regained the power over how we feel and have chosen to consciously apply that power through our thoughts, emotions and actions. They are by no means a substitute for it.

In thinking from the long term, I believe, we quite naturally develop many of the following unstoppable characteristics of a spiritually/physically successful human being: living with passion, finding ways to follow our bliss, removing most forms of negativity from our lives, steadfast determination, staying true to ourselves, creating a niche where none previously existed, shifting the paradigm, overcoming fears, never giving up, embracing our power, thriving even in an economy that occasionally focuses on lack, realizing there are no true roadblocks keeping us from that which we desire – only momentary impediments, and wanting to uplift and give back to others in whatever form that may take.

Now, I know my above commentary may sound contradictory to one of my main themes at Wind of the Soul: “Each one of us is responsible for creating our reality.” And, if we choose to believe our goals and dreams will take large amounts of time to accomplish, then aren’t we setting ourselves up for that exact scenario to unfold?

I’m not saying we should assume our dreams will take many years to become a reality. In this post, I’m juxtaposing our dreams against the manner in which all living things naturally progress in our Universe and driving home the importance of never giving up. It’s through this juxtaposition that we can begin to understand why we need to think more from a long term mindset. Apply this mindset (i.e. the realization of time’s proper place in the equation) with the other components, and results will undoubtedly show.

One more thing pertaining to living in this manner, as it applies to achieving our hopes and aspirations: long term doesn’t mean we forsake the moment of now. It means we stay present in our current moment, doing all that we can towards accomplishing our goals, while realizing each moment will eventually stack on top of the next, until we find ourselves looking out atop that giant sequoia.

A Wind of the Soul visitor sent me a great email just a few days ago. He had listened to my law of attraction podcast and was specifically interested in the segment where I discussed receiving two pennies through seemingly mystical means. In his letter, he asked if I fully believed in my abilities to manifest financial wealth and abundance, without the need to take any physical action. He also was curious to know whether or not I was capable of realizing my true power and if so, why I would choose to continue pursuing my online businesses for bringing in income, if I indeed was in tune with my capabilities?

I love all of the feedback I receive from my visitors, but I truly appreciate it when someone asks probing questions, such as these. I’m not at all offended or put off by such questions, as they help me to consider new ways of looking at the subjects I frequently discuss. They also provide me with some insight into what my visitors are taking away from and bringing to my blog posts and podcasts.

In honestly answering his questions, I stated I do not believe enough in my power of instantaneous materialization to remove the need for taking all physical action. Over time, I have developed a belief in a balance and a synergy between my thoughts and my required actions for manifesting those thoughts.

However, I do believe there is a small amount of people, on this planet, which have the ability to materialize (any and all) items from thin air. They’ve either developed and honed this ability or never were taught to associate materialization with action, hence their lack of requirement for doing so. There are numerous accounts of such individuals residing in remote locations of the globe. While some may in fact be fraudulent claims, I do believe the ability honestly exists in some. My encounter with the very strange appearance of two pennies does provide me with a small glimpse into this phenomenon; while helping me to grasp its validity.

The irony in all of this – even if I awoke tomorrow with the complete ability to instantaneously materialize any object I chose (including money), from thin air; I wouldn’t stop taking physical action regarding my income generating pursuits. This is primarily due to the fact I so thoroughly enjoy everything I do, that I would do it all for free, but it is also because I believe we are residing in a physically based environment for a reason.

At least, during this point in our spiritual awareness, most of us are meant to be a part of the cause and effect link between thought, action and manifestation. To initially create with our minds and then allow our bodies to follow suit, bringing forth what we mentally conceive, is so thrilling and joyously satisfying. I believe it is a large part of why source chooses to experience itself through us in this specific plane of existence. Just because some appear to be capable of “overcoming” physical action does not mean they are more spiritually advanced than others who have not.

There are plenty of non-physical planes where the energy of all that is can consistently experience instantaneous manifestations of thought forms, minus any physical action. But to be in this physical place, at this moment, where our actions count for so much, is no accident. I know some believe this “level” of existence is some sort of practice arena in which we are meant to hone our abilities of manifestation. It’s often believed the earth plane is for those that aren’t yet responsible enough to exist in pure thought environments.

Where this line of thinking emerges from, I am not sure. But I am certain every single one of us transitions, immediately after this physical experience, into pure thought environments anyway. So, why do we all suddenly attain this so called worthiness after we pass on, yet it wasn’t granted to us while we are physically focused?

I view our spiritual existence slightly differently. I don’t believe the Universe is set up with levels of reward or punishment that are independent from us. I believe we are all equally gifted creators, because we are THE creator, no matter what plane of being we are occupying in the moment of now. Our experiences are simply that. They are not about achieving a specific degree of responsible behavior, to be rewarded by advancing to the “head of the class” in future dimensions.

I believe those types of ideas are conceived from the human mind, where we fret over competition and status. We are meant to create and emotionally experience our creations from our current standpoint (no matter where that may be), not devise means for achieving levels of advancement. All of our experiences and the environment we occupy, in this moment, represent the resources we draw upon for creation. Physical manipulation of energy happens to be one of those resources. We are where we are for a reason and I feel that reason is to experience a physical vehicle and all of its physically creative capabilities.

So, where does this leave me concerning the meaning of the two pennies? I believe they were providing a glimpse into how powerful our intentions can be and they were a representation of my consistent thoughts of abundance.

Are we completely dependent upon physical action to provide financial stability or anything else for that matter in the physical Universe? Maybe not- maybe mass consciousness will eventually know how to perform instantaneous materializations, at a grand scale, even in the physically based Universe. But imagine what we would be missing if we could choose to eliminate a large portion of physicality from the physical world. I believe that would be defeating the purpose of being here in the first place.

Once again, I want to thank the individual for sending their email. In this post, I was not at all making light of their questions or trying to retaliate. Rather, their questions stimulated something deeper within me which I felt compelled to write about. For that I’m extremely appreciative. Their email provided me with another angle for viewing my own physicality and honoring it in a way I frequently neglect.

As is customary for me, every time a public television pledge drive comes around, I have to tune into their broadcasting. Throughout the year, PBS normally has a variety of great programming, but around pledge time they really bring out their “A” game. This is when you can expect to see programs featuring people like Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra.

So on Saturday morning, shortly after waking, I turned on the TV to see what my local public television channel was airing. They were already forty five minutes into a show called, The Artist’s Way at Work, with Mark Bryan. Now, even though I was only able to catch the last fifteen minutes of the program, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I always find myself enthralled when watching and listening to what inspires the creative process in artists (or anyone). Perhaps there’s nothing that peaks my interest more than hearing about that which gets the creative juices flowing. To learn what stirs and drives others always tunes me into my own inspiration to create.

During the last quarter of the program, Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash fame was discussing what prevents him from stagnating as an artist. He was talking about how versatility and variation are often the keys to inspiring his creativity.

I have found the same to be true of my inspiration for being creative. My muse is definitely the variety in my pursuits. This is why I write and record audio programs here at Wind of the Soul, yet I also build Halloween artwork, take photographs, brainstorm gift giveaways and make videos at Season of Shadows. I’m passionate about everything I do or else I wouldn’t do it. And, even though each project is exciting to me, the consistent variety always provides freshness to my work and to my life.

Now, when I speak of creativity I’m not strictly referring to artwork, writing, crafts or music. Each and every one of us is a creator in our own unique way. We are constantly in different stages of creation, even if we are thinking thoughts which have yet to manifest through our physical actions.

Just because you may not pick up a brush and touch it to canvas, doesn’t mean you can’t be inspired to continually create in new ways through variety and versatility. It’s for this reason I’m hesitant to ever limit myself to one primary pursuit. I think it’s far too easy for us to slip into a solitary role and see ourselves as “that person” for the rest of our lives- whether the role is defined by a philosophy, a job, our career, hobby or a relationship. While there’s nothing wrong with inhabiting the skin of that somewhat singular character, I think there is something extremely important about taking creative “risks”. Creative risks are the backbone of every journey and their end product.

A creative risk can be a tough thing to undertake if we doubt our abilities and fear what others will ultimately think. However, without the willingness to venture into those unchartered waters, our creativity and our creative abilities can become stagnant. As we stagnate, we tend to lose even more faith in what we’re capable of accomplishing.

Now, I’ve never been a huge advocate of the face your fears ideology, in spite of the tremendous anxiety and terror you’re feeling inside. I’ve tried it many times and I will admit it can help in certain situations, but there are many more circumstances in which it only reinforces and exacerbates the original fear. Instead, I believe we must re-examine our fear and get a better understanding of why it’s there before we move forward to challenge it, but only if the pursuit is indeed something we consider worthwhile. In doing so, our emotions won’t be so out of control and we won’t be so overly attached to the fear as it rears its head.

I only mention I’m not a full on “face your fear” advocate because I don’t want anyone to feel bad if they’re afraid to employ variety and take creative risks. Again this comes back to finding what you’re passionate about. Once passion fuels your drive, then it’s obviously a worthwhile pursuit and it becomes easier to release the fear involved with taking the creative risk.

The beauty in embracing variety is that it allows us to try so many different endeavors. It seems like a common misconception that we should stick to one thing (get really good at it) and not divide our time among multiple pursuits. Again, that’s fine if someone has a singular interest. But for those of us that have a strong thirst for many different things, it’s comforting and inspiring to know many other creators do as well. Not only do they have multiple interests but their creativity actually flourishes by keeping their pursuits varied. Variation creates a beneficial, synergistic effect among all of their endeavors which continues to further inspire their creative genius.

Question: Hi, I’ve been learning a lot about the idea that we create our reality. If this is true, then does it mean we’ve created all of the bad things in our world too? I don’t understand the issues of politics, crime, war, death, destruction and so on. Did I contribute to the creation of those things? And if so, how am I responsible? I’m not attacking, I’m just asking–if we create our own reality then wouldn’t that include our world at the global scale as well? I never want war or crime or bad doings, but they seem to be growing. How did I create them? Thank you in advance for your answer. By the way, I like your site a lot. - Jessica

Answer: Jessica, thank you. I appreciate probing questions like yours. I believe the external world, we call reality, is a reflection of both our individual point of focus and the collective focus of mass consciousness. But the mass collective consciousness definitely has a stronger ability for influencing global issues (at a faster rate) than our individual point within that consciousness does.

I have written a few older blog posts where I touched on the fact that we are indeed responsible for all of what we observe around us. The beauty in that (I know it may seem almost impossible to find beauty in many of the things in our world) is if we are capable of creating undesirable manifestations then imagine the amazing potential for what we could be creating.

Of course, manifestation in this physical plane is a 50/50 thing (usually). It takes our thoughts initially and then the follow-up of actions, based on those thoughts, to shift our reality. I say usually because I have seen items materialize from thin air without any action, so I know that too is possible. I believe the farther we push the envelope on consciousness, the more possible it is to see instantaneous manifestations, minus the action portion of the equation, but that’s a different subject altogether.

Now, you asked if you created things like war, [corrupt forms of] politics, crime, death, etc. I believe your individual influence on those wide spread issues is rather small in the whole scheme of mass consciousness. But, we all do contribute to the big picture. All of the items you asked about were set into motion many, many years before your specific personality came into focus in this existence. Since manifestation is an ongoing process, you can’t fault yourself for causing those things to have snowballed to their current status. Yet, you can certainly hone your thoughts and actions to where those things have very little impact on your personal life, in turn preventing their contribution at the global scale as well- minus death of course.

Death is one of those things that serves as a transition, similar to birth, into other environments. I can’t say for certain why death is an absolute for all physical beings in our reality; other than I believe we utilize it to broaden our consciousness. It’s sort of the ultimate form of expansion, which serves to remind us there is so much more out there than just these bodies of flesh and bone.

Another component, which is a regular occurrence we can count, is change. Change is inevitable because it prevents our Universe from becoming stagnant. If it weren’t for change, we would all be living lives that have no meaning since they would be frozen in time. Change has the ability to usher in events that provide us with new desires. One way I like to look at the events we deem horrible is that they are providing us with the ability to carve out these new desires for ourselves and those around us.

If we would all begin to shift our focus toward those new desires, rather than continuing to talk about, think about and identify with “bad” things (even though we don’t want them to occur), then we would begin to feel an internal shift. And if our actions were also congruent with those thoughts, the shift would be experienced at the physical level as well.

I’m definitely not suggesting we walk around with our heads in the sand regarding issues in our country and abroad, especially on the heels of my last post. However, once we understand the domestic and foreign state of affairs, then it’s time to stop constantly inundating ourselves with more of the same. Enough really is enough. It’s the job of the news agencies (and all bearers of bad news) to make it seem as if you can’t live without their reports. In reality, you can do just fine without listening to their spew time and again. Give those guys an inch and they will be more than happy to take twenty miles. Once we have been informed of the “big picture” then it’s time to turn off the television and the internet’s version of things and start making our own contributions in the direction of that which we wish for the world to experience.

Most people feel helpless and believe their seemingly “insignificant” contribution won’t make any difference whatsoever. And earlier in this post I did say you have to let yourself off the hook for the massive scale of corruption seen throughout the world. Yet, each individual and their experiences do create a ripple effect. The old adage about no man being an island is true. As long as we have thought thoughts and taken actions that interact in some way with others, we have already been participants in this game we call life and can no longer consider ourselves isolated. To be a participant means we have contributed in some way to our world. This is why it’s important to weigh out what we wish to contribute, from this point forward.

If humanity has created and added to most of the undesirable conditions we see throughout the world (and it has), then humanity absolutely has the ability, at the mass consciousness level, to make a full scale change in the other direction- but this has to start with each individual. The way you do your part, Jessica, is by setting the example in your own life. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Begin focusing on primarily those things that bring out your feelings of joy, passion and love and let your actions naturally follow suit. It’s OK to occasionally acknowledge the state of affairs in the world, but after doing so, quickly shift your focus to the way you want your little corner within it to be. And then make it so.

All of the negativity has to stop somewhere. Each one of us must set the example. Even if we don’t consciously want more harm and destruction to occur, our constant attention to the fact it is occurring is what prevents us from shifting our vibration. If we can’t pull ourselves out of a negative mindset, we will have problems taking the appropriate actions to contribute to the changes we desire to see.

And that does it for this question and answer installment. I’d like to thank Jessica for her great questions and you for taking the time to read this post. If you have any spiritual development or self-help questions you would like to see addressed, feel free to contact me.
After recording three podcasts (episodes 4, 5 & 6) pertaining to the intentional creation of our reality, I realized much was stated verbally that hasn’t been expressed through my writing. Specifically, I’m referring to the recognition of how the law of attraction (LOA) really isn’t a quick fix mechanism, but instead a total lifestyle change. In my audio recordings, I equated the LOA to the application of proper eating and exercise: results will always be directly related to the consistent application of the knowledge at hand (both through our thoughts and our actions).

Despite what many law of attraction teachings state, regarding turning our lives completely around in twenty or thirty days, I find it’s more of a natural progression. And I don’t feel natural progressions are dictated by human time tables. While there may very well be instances where people completely perform a 180 degree transformation, on all levels, in four weeks; large manifestations of change primarily unfold in a very different manner.

I personally have been involved with instantaneous materializations, so I know they are possible. Although I do feel our beliefs are directly correlated to this type of phenomenon, there is still no denying the natural, unrushed progression which can be observed consistently in nature. This is why I focused on the wisdom of water in my last post, leading up to today’s entry.

As we honestly look to the behavior of naturally occurring elements, performing as they always have on this planet; we are granted a window into a lost world, minus human socialization. This world is “lost” to most because we have forgotten the innate understanding of how all things synchronize, in harmony, through a natural orderly progression. It’s completely socialized out of us.

We have cast aside our ability to set forth a desire, line up with a steady psychological path, minus doubt, and physically pursue our interest with a soft and gentle consistency. If we would maintain this awareness, the Universe, in its own naturally progressive way, would harmoniously deliver our intention, every time. In nature there are no deadlines or demands that can force its hand. It absolutely provides what is needed and intended, but nothing can strong-arm it into doing so at a faster pace.

“Away” from the natural world, back amongst humanity, we’ve come to believe we have to make things happen, but the Universe knows better. LOA teachings indicating everything in our lives can turn around on a dime are stated with good intentions, but they still hint of deadlines, time tables, and forcing a change. This attitude flies in the face of the concept of natural progression, which can be viewed throughout all settings in nature.

Many years ago, there was a margarine commercial airing on television, boasting about the product’s taste and how it was impossible to tell the difference between it and butter. The commercials always ended with a female actress depicting Mother Nature, stating, “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.” These ads were insinuating the margarine company had pulled a fast one on “her” by capturing the taste of real butter in their non-butter product. While these were only commercials, this same attitude prevails among many people, even if it’s unintentional.

We are always trying to pull one over on nature to speed up a process here or there. That same mindset has even found its way into ideas and concepts for intentionally creating our reality. While we may feel we’re able to “fool” Mother Nature for a short while, there are always repercussions. This is why it’s important to understand we absolutely can have, be or do anything, but we simultaneously need to respect the natural progression of all things. If we work in harmony with this understanding, we will not burn out on the LOA, as so many do, when using it as a quick-fix remedy.

Our lives did not reach their present state overnight. They are an accumulation of momentous thoughts and actions which have come to fruition through their own natural progression. To alter our current manifested reality we absolutely must begin making emotional and physical changes, but we have to recognize this is an entire lifestyle change, for the rest of our lives. Just as years of momentum brought us to our present moment, momentum will also lead us to an entirely different place in our lives. If we have changed our thoughts and actions and are working with the flow of natural progression, instead of trying to fight it; it’s guaranteed our future will look extremely different than our past.

It can be difficult to move beyond the “I want it now” forceful mentality. This is why I frequently discuss focusing on our passion as a component of working with the law of attraction. When we pursue our passion we naturally tap into the same wisdom as flowing water, without even thinking about it. This allows us to return to that lost world of knowledge within ourselves. When focusing on passionate pursuits, we instinctually perform more in sync with the elements and the characteristics of natural progression, without always forcing something to happen. We drop the attitude of trying (which isn’t seen in nature) and adopt the attitude of consistently doing, by being softly deliberate, gently intentional and quietly unfailing. This state of being will see us through every leg of our journey.

I don’t believe understanding and assimilating the ideas of natural progression will cause manifestations to appear at a slower rate. In my opinion, it actually accentuates our abilities to become intentional creators. We will be more in harmony with the Universe and its abundance when we are simultaneously creating alongside its natural processes, as opposed to seeing ourselves wielding a form of external control over it- trying to milk it, as quickly as possible, for all it’s worth.

For years, musicians, in different genres, have touched on the sentiment of today’s post regarding our perspective and how it pertains to opportunity. Two songs come immediately to mind: The rock anthem- You Can’t Always Get What You Want, by the Rolling Stones and the country classic- Unanswered Prayers, by Garth Brooks.

Of course, the Stones were singing about the concept that we don’t always receive everything we desire, but through our continued efforts, we can receive exactly what we need. Garth on the other hand, was referencing the idea that the god source energy provides its most amazing gifts, to us, by not granting certain prayers. However, it’s only in hindsight that we can understand and appreciate this.

Now, I don’t agree with the portion of these two songs that indicates we are unable to have or achieve certain things, whether by our own accord or due to a supposed intervention by source energy. It’s simply a matter of how we pursue our dreams (both through our thoughts and actions), and how willing we are to allow an adjustment of the means for them to manifest in our reality, which determines the outcome.

While we are in pursuit of certain dreams or goals, we can stumble onto some of the most treasured gems of opportunity and possibility. These opportunities could not have presented themselves, if we had not been pursuing our initial desires in the first place. And, they may very well serve as a new and “improved” route for continuing to thrust us forward, regarding our interests.

These paths, which may appear to be alternate to our initial plans, are the Universe’s way of handing us what we were originally wanting; only in a manner which is more appropriate for the achievement of all we desire. You see, I like to take songs like the ones mentioned above and interpret them differently than the way the song writers might have originally intended.

In the case of Unanswered Prayers, the main character had been setting forth the desire to have a great relationship and settle down with his high school sweetheart, but he was disappointed by the fact they failed to marry. Years later, he and the woman who eventually became his wife, run into his old flame at their alma mater’s football game. Bumping into her causes him to reflect on the idea god failed to answer his prayers during high school. Yet, he’s appreciative of this because his old girlfriend no longer behaved the way he remembered.

However, if we look a little closer, I believe his prayers were answered. They weren’t ignored at all. They were delivered to him, only in the guise of someone slightly different than the woman he initially assumed would fill the role. The character made his intentions clear (in this case through prayer) and took action by pursuing a relationship of his dreams. Along the way, certain opportunities presented themselves. And while he didn’t end up with his high school sweetheart, he still received his original intention for a meaningful, happy relationship.

Of course, this is just a song, but creative endeavors like song writing and singing, similar to writing and storytelling, provide the means to get in touch with our core beliefs. This is especially true if we find ourselves identifying heavily with the characters involved, whether we are the writer, listener or reader. We must examine those beliefs in order to understand the direction our lives are taking and what we are receiving.

For example, looking at alternate circumstances as an opportunity instead of a problem typically requires some distance between our initial intentions and the current crossroads we may be facing. We often have to take a new path and try it before we can fully appreciate its benefits. Only when we look back, can we reflect upon where we’ve been and the process it created, thus leading us to an even more advantageous point in our life experience.

The more consistently we can adopt and foster the view of alternate paths being opportunities instead of something dreadful, the more our lives will continue taking shape in a manner which resembles our initial intentions. Occasionally we must be willing to slightly remodel the means for achieving our desires, based upon our own expansion/evolution and what’s finding its way to us. Without this flexibility we may close ourselves off to some amazing experiences that can provide more expansive results than what we are currently achieving.

By continuing to set forth our intentions, establishing our true purpose, and taking actions which are in alignment with these; we will find a multitude of opportunities presenting themselves. This doesn’t mean we have to jump on board each and every one of them. Nor does it mean by taking any one them we have forsaken our original dream. It only means we are on the right path (for ourselves) and the Universe is acknowledging this by reflecting these opportunities in our experiences. It also means the original dream has reached such a point of expansion (right alongside our own personal expansion) that it too must go through some growth to continue keeping up with our new state of being.

So, don’t thank god for unanswered prayers, instead thank god, or source, or the Universe, or whatever you feel fuels your awareness, for manifestations that have been tailored to the individual you continue to become. As you shift and broaden your view point, you will recognize that when you get what you need, you’re really getting what you wanted all along.

This episode’s running time is 42 minutes and 16 seconds (file size for downloading is 38.7 MB) and features:

-A lengthy discussion on staying present and aware and how it quite possibly is the most vital, overlooked element in most law of attraction teachings
-Understanding that our brain (if we allow it) becomes consistently wired to process current information based on our past experiences and why it’s usually necessary to break free from this process
-Establishing the driving force that will see us through any hurdle that “appears” to stand between where we are and where we hope to be
-The importance of pursuing activities which elicit our passion and desire
-Channeling our passion into means of reciprocation
-Learning to maintain consistency along our course of action
-Striving for a balance between our physical actions and thoughts
-Recognizing when we are obstructing the delivery of our dreams by standing in our own way

There’s a firmly seated idea within the human mind that death and the afterlife provide a permanent respite from active awareness. This holds just as true for believers as it does for non-believers in the survival of consciousness beyond the death transition. Whether viewed as a reward from the almighty to sit on a cloud and play a harp for eternity or as a means for taking the fast track into oblivion; death has somehow been equated with the end of our expansiveness.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise however, since most people shun their expansive nature during the course of their physical experience. Many assume they did their duty by playing the game of life and after they die it’s time to either turn the keys over to “whoever’s running the show” or else cease to be altogether.

The thing is- we don’t get off the hook that easy, but I have a feeling you already knew I was going to say that.

If we probe deeper into the amazingly creative energy which has the potential to fully flow through us, fueling our every experience (if we would only let it), then we find an adventurous, thrill seeking, conscious being. Most of us are so unaware of what is itching to pour through us during every second of every day that we take our lack luster view on reality along with our concepts of separation/isolation and transfer them over to the death experience as well.

Even if we feel we are going to be rewarded when we get to heaven or wherever it is we believe we are going, we still assume it all pretty much ends right there. We’ll be reunited with our loved ones and then the creator, who we believe is separate from ourselves, hands us all the answers to the mysteries of life and that’s it, we’re done.

That concept is extremely boring, lackadaisical and unimaginative. I’m not trying to belittle our reunion with loved ones and I know it sounds like I’m being judgmental here, but it’s only to illustrate a point of how limited a view we have on existence and our source of being.

Do we really think the very energy that created this entire Universe; the very energy that fuels our awareness (to whatever extent we are letting it) would end a major production, like each of our lives, on such a pathetic and limp note? Even Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and Hollywood could come up with something far more entertaining than that. This adventure never ends because the Universe and our place in it never cease to expand.

I know there are theories out there that postulate our goal is to cease continuing to incarnate and to permanently rejoin the single minded source energy awareness for eternity. Yet, I can’t find anything in concepts like that which resonates with me. It’s not that I don’t feel that would be a beautiful thing, but I think those concepts short change our expansive powers, cheating us from experiencing how far we (as source) can push the boundaries and limits on our creativity.

What I’m speaking of has tentacles which reach far beyond physical incarnations. I’m talking about the potential for billions of other forms of existences to spring forth which haven’t been thought into being yet within the mind of consciousness. Each time we move into, out of, and between life experiences, the Universe (physical and non-physical) is our oyster.

We have no desire to stay stationary for long and we certainly aren’t going to nod off into non-existence. Likewise, we would not be happy sitting idle without exercising our constant unquenchable desire to create, whether we’re sculpting other dimensional existences from non-physical or finger painting again in kindergarten- creation is creation is expansive experience, and we exist to do just that.

If that were not the case then human beings never would have evolved beyond a few single celled organisms within the primordial ooze. We never would have had the potential to think and bring those thoughts to physical fruition through the amazing journey of the creative process. We never would have had the ability to procreate other human beings through the expansive creative process of the sexual experience. All signs point to the fact we are here to create and to let source energy vicariously experience our creations through these physical vehicles. And when we return fully into non-physical awareness we will continue to masterfully create as the expansive cycle continues.

The physical plane of existence is just one of our many stops along the way. We may incarnate in this environment for as long as we choose, or move beyond it after just a few lifetimes. I don’t believe there is an ultimate state of nirvana, aside from the journey and the experience itself.

At some point, in some far off distant version of reality, we may evolve beyond using the physical plane; however we will never reach a point of culmination where we fail to extend our creative minds. There’s always another realm, another potential of thought and another amazingly expansive creative process to experience. So is the mind of god/source/all that is.

If we are creative expansive beings, why don’t we come with a built in program reminding us of such as soon as we hit the ground in the Earth environment? Because we are creative beings, we have free will, but it’s up to us to find our power. No one can show us that fully except for ourselves. To be externally shown that would defeat the purpose of our having the ability to create as we choose. We must take the journey through the creative process (creating elements we like and dislike) to understand how much power we have and to better understand what we would rather experience. If we don’t know what a negative feeling feels like (within our physical self), then how could we ever understand our potential for incredible joy?

Let’s say we did come with a built in program that told us how to create our life from day one. That would be similar to someone taking an art class to become an excellent oil painter, but their instructor insists on painting their paintings for them or tells them they can only paint whatever the instructor dictates, forever.

Our physical bodies represent the painter and source is the instructor that helps guide us when we allow it to. We’re given a blank canvass when we enter into this “class” to work with as we choose. We can either listen to the instructor for the entire length of the class or not, it’s up to us. However, we may eventually realize that when we do listen our paintings develop much quicker than when we try to go it “alone.”

They become even more pleasing and beautiful as we continue to interact with the instructor and become one with its guidance. The instructor will never dictate what we are to paint, but it will give us indications and techniques, as we go along, for how to create paintings which are more pleasing to us.

Now, let’s take another extreme example, one we would have to work with if we believe in destiny. Let’s say our life was already created for us and we had no input or bearing on it one way or the other. We just came forth and lived it. That takes us right back to my example of dying, going into the afterlife, and then resting in the corner somewhere for eternity.
Source flows through us to enjoy our creative expansive experiences. We make the decisions and we create as we go. Source doesn’t sit back and phone this all in; it comes along for the ride and is thrilled by it.

We are our bodies, but we are also the source energy which fuels these vehicles. If our entire life was pre-destined it would totally stifle and defeat the creative purpose of our source energy as well as the ability of our physical selves to enjoy the sensory input of our creations.

I answered two email questions recently in Q & A: Law of Attraction & Manifestation, pertaining to my own success with consciously applying the law of attraction and with my own abilities for manifesting. Since answering those questions I’ve had a couple of interesting experiences I’d like to share.

While there doesn’t seem to be anything mystical about finding coins laying on the ground— something a little more intriguing is afoot when they begin actively finding us. I underlined actively because that’s the best way I can describe how two pennies made their presence known to me within the last three weeks.

The first occurred while I was standing at the sink in my kitchen. My mom and I had stopped by my place after running some errands earlier in the day. She was in the living room with her back turned to the kitchen and I had just reached for the towel to dry my hands. While drying them I noticed, out of the corner of my eye, something rolling across the floor on edge (like a wheel) towards me. I then felt and saw it bounce off of my shoe, sort of sputter around and fall flat a few inches from my right foot. I looked down and that’s when I realized it was a penny.

Now, neither one of us made any movement that could have caused the coin to roll in my direction. In fact, my mom was standing perfectly still while I was gently drying my hands on the towel. The towel always hangs loose from an exposed rack and nothing fell from it. I wasn’t carrying any loose change in my pockets at all that day either. The coin rolled towards me from the opposite end of the kitchen. There’s no shelving or items it could have fallen from in that part of the kitchen- only a wall and a closed window. When I first noticed the movement it was at least three or four feet away from me.

If it had fallen off of me or out of the towel it would have dropped down flat and made a sound as it hit the floor. There was no sound whatsoever signaling the penny was being moved or dropped and everything was perfectly silent in the house when it began rolling.

Even if it had dropped or managed to roll from a source on or near me, it would have been leaving my general direction, not coming towards me from several feet away. My mom and I were the only ones in the house and neither of us budged an inch between the time I washed and began drying my hands.

I don’t leave loose change laying around on the kitchen floor, so apparently it not only moved by its own accord, it also either manifested out of nothing or was somehow transported from my room (where I do keep change) to the kitchen, prior to rolling on its edge across the linoleum. My mom witnessed it occurring from her vantage point as well. Although she had her back turned to the kitchen she noticed the penny, from the corner of her eye, rolling behind and past her.

While this event was strange, I didn’t give it a lot of thought until about a week or two later, when the second coin made its appearance. It was a Sunday morning, this time at my parents’ house, and my dad and I were doing some yard work. He had been using a pair of gloves to pick up branches and leaves for the entire hour and a half we were in the yard. There was one last pile to pick up and I borrowed the gloves he was using to finish the clean up. I had already placed a few handfuls of brush into the previously empty trash bag, when I noticed something metallic against my right thumb. I took the glove off carefully and found a penny balancing on the end of my thumb.

Of course, my mind instantly flashed back to the kitchen incident, but I wanted to know what my dad’s experiences were while wearing the gloves before I jumped to any conclusions. After speaking with him, he swore he didn’t feel anything while wearing them nor did he place the coin inside. The gloves are almost brand new (the lining’s not torn) and his hands are larger than mine, so he would have been more aware if something had been “stuck” to the fingertip. He also put them on and took them off several times throughout the morning. If something had been inside them, it would have easily fallen out during these instances.

The most interesting thing about the coin’s appearance was the fact I had been wearing the gloves for several minutes prior to it showing up. I never felt anything sliding up or down inside them during all my hand movements. And I didn’t dip my hand into anything where a penny would have fallen into the gloves either.

In one instance it wasn’t there and in the next it was. All I can recall, when I became aware of it, was the sensation of it “automatically” balancing itself on my thumb. It didn’t feel as if it materialized from within my thumb nor did it feel like it fell against it. It just simply was there.
Since this occurred, I’ve intentionally stuck a penny in many locations within the same glove (including the thumb) and it’s easily felt, immediately after placing my hand inside, each and every time.

Both of these instances separately could be forgotten, but the sheer fact they happened to me within a week or two of one another places more importance on their occurrence. I’ve looked for logical explanations in terms of them being caused by something in my surroundings. However, the likelihood of this being the case is very slim when I take into consideration the circumstances in both events. I wouldn’t even mention these occurrences if they had shown up in the “usual” way we find loose change, but the strange means for their appearance is what intrigues me. If their manifestations are not due to “normal” channels and events and I believe they aren’t, then what could be responsible and why?

I feel these experiences are connected to the deliberate intentions I’ve been setting forth for quite some time. While I’ve mentioned I’m not overly concerned or obsessed with financial gain, I do focus upon abundance in general in all the positive aspects of my life, including finances. I focus upon these ideas and images during meditation, while daydreaming or even when I have stray thoughts. I place strong desirable emotion behind these thoughts and focus. I believe these pennies were signs and signals being triggered from a deeper level of awareness within the field of consciousness.

I don’t think the value of the coins was significant in terms of the amount, but rather it was more symbolic in terms of signifying an upswing in overall financial abundance. I read a post a while back titled: How Intentions Manifest at www.stevepavlina.com where Steve discussed the Universe’s ability to give him validating signals he calls Alpha Reflections. When an intention he set forth has been received and taken hold, he encounters a synchronistic experience which is directly related to his recent intentions. I believe my experiences were similar to this but in an extremely mystical way. These pennies were rolled and “handed” to me to indicate my intentions for monetary abundance had been received and taken hold.

Now someone might say, “Well, if that’s the case, then why didn’t the pennies materialize right in front of your eyes or in your hand sans the glove?” I feel they came to me in a way I could accept but also recognize as still being special, so I would understand the deeper meaning behind their appearance. Even though I’m extremely open minded and am constantly, actively working to expand my thoughts and awareness- I probably am still not yet able to see full, instant manifestation in front of my eyes. I may have some ingrained residual limiting concepts preventing this from occurring. These two instances were the most mystical means in which the coins could come into my experience at this point in my life.

Most of our deliberate creations come forth through doors the Universe subtly opens based upon momentum of our thoughts and actions. However, I believe my experiences illustrate our potential for manifesting in an even more obvious mystical, metaphysical manner.

As we come to an understanding that our individual reality is being affected not only by our actions, but also by the emotional states that drive our actions; we must determine a proper balance if we wish to be deliberate (highly effective) fulfilled creators. Most people have caused a large imbalance in their lives by devoting almost one hundred percent of their energy to the action portion of this equation. They’re basically leaping before they feel. And while most inadvertently realize their actions flow much smoother when they feel good, they still miss how connected and intertwined their emotions are in this process.

It’s easy to understand why many have lost sight of their emotional creative power. In a material based form of reality we become conditioned to believe we must exert extreme amounts of physical force to cause any form of change in our surroundings. While this is partially true, it’s not the only factor at play.

Just because we are focused upon physical bodies doesn’t mean we are purely physical entities. If this were the case, there would be no purpose for our feelings or emotions. We would maneuver from point A to point B without any internal feeling responses whatsoever. It’s the emotions that serve to remind us of our link up with the portion of ourselves, which remains nonphysical. It’s also the emotions which provide signals along the way, indicating whether we are on a path whose outcome will be pleasing to us.

From a scientific point of view our feelings are only chemical reactions within the brain, yet those minute reactions have the ability to inspire a drive toward physical locomotion. And for those that are aware of how to harness them- they serve to promote smooth flowing, highly effective, desirable, result producing locomotion.

I’m careful when I use words like harness because I don’t mean to indicate we should suppress or squelch our emotions. That approach only serves to stifle any awareness of the inspiration behind our physical actions and the results we receive.

When I say harness, I’m referring to an alignment of emotion in conjunction with action. It’s about bringing both on to the same page prior to moving forward in any endeavor. Only then can our actions be free of unnecessary struggle and effort. And only then can we realize purpose in what we do because we will have made a conscious emotional decision about what feels best for us.

Once this becomes our way of being, it will serve as our guidance prior to becoming involved in any undertaking. Approaching substantial action in this manner will constantly provide desirable results because we will no longer be second guessing our decisions. Second guessing ourselves serves as a severe form of self sabotage and undermines our confidence and the belief in our abilities. When we are in tune with our emotions, self sabotage becomes an unlikely possibility because we will no longer venture into a course of action that feels out of range with what inspires us and brings us joy.

There are many teachers that speak very heavily about action as they address subjects like personal development, the law of attraction and the intentional creation of our reality, so much so that they seem to be overstressing the action portion. I agree that action is quite necessary, when discussing these subjects, however action means very little if we never learn to hone our emotions right alongside it (and preferably before it).

Although someone can see accomplishment (through physical action) without emotional alignment, they may not be performing at their highest potential, nor receiving the results they are hoping for. It means there is a lot of spent energy that could be directed in a more beneficial manner, both in terms of blood, sweat and tears and the rewards that are being reaped from their action.

It’s also true that many (although far less than the action oriented crowd) spend too much of their time focusing on their emotional responses and taking very little action. It’s important to acknowledge and harness our emotions, but at some point the action portion of the equation needs to kick in. The Universe is constantly aiding us in any endeavor we want to pursue, yet it can only do so through the methods and means that we have set into motion or are beginning to set into motion.

For example, if someone is visualizing (with a lot of great intense feeling) the mate of their dreams coming into their life, yet they never date and never attend social gatherings, then they would be limiting the means for the Universe to set up circumstances in which they could meet their ideal mate. That’s not to say it couldn’t happen in some other manner, but it does narrow the means for the manifestation of their desire. After emotionally aligning with the type of person they want to be with and feeling what it would feel like to have such a relationship, it’s time to interact with others.

We have to personally assess whether we are far too action oriented or if we spend too much time working with our emotions. I have been at both ends of the spectrum during different times in my life. I worked a job for years that was extremely physically demanding, even to the point of incurring multiple injuries, which required surgery. The rewards and benefits were no where near being equal to the amount of effort I put forth.

I was emotionally unhappy and unfulfilled at this job, yet I tried to compensate with more and more action. And I’ve also been at the point where my emotions ruled much of my life, as I spent far too much time over thinking every decision and choice I made. In all honesty, this latter scenario is an ongoing situation that I continue to work through.

I’ve found it’s really about striking a balance. When we lean too far in one direction or another, the results we are receiving will begin to reflect this. Our life experience always sends us signals when there is too much imbalance between our actions and emotions.

On the other hand, when we are firing equally on all cylinders emotionally and physically, the desired results flow to us smoothly and easily. Even the things that would normally appear as roadblocks become minor speed bumps along the way.

Consciously applying the law of attraction has been shown to yield amazing manifestations in the lives of those that believe in it and intentionally put it to work. But what about those individuals that understand attraction, yet can’t seem to break out of their habitually patterned negative thoughts?

Working with the law of attraction is a very simple concept to understand, however applying those easily understood concepts can sometimes be extremely difficult. This can be especially true after many decades of negative thought processes have taken root. As our negative inclinations become habitual, while accompanied by strong emotions, the physical manifestations in our lives will reflect this.

This entire process is internalized at a much deeper level within the psyche. Without realizing it, we can become walking talking magnets primarily for the very things that we are complaining about and hoping to avoid. Those habits can be difficult to break, even after learning about attraction.

This article is for those that know we are responsible for everything that enters into our lives, yet may still be having issues getting past ingrained negative thoughts. I place myself in this category because I have seen the positive physical changes, which have come into my life when I consciously apply law of attraction. But I still have many years of ingrained negative thought patterning that I sometimes find myself utilizing.

Working with my emotions to find feelings of relief is almost always the best way for me to approach these negative thoughts, however when that doesn’t seem to work I like to employ the technique of distracting myself. Although distraction is not considered a law like attraction, I believe it too is a powerful tool for conscious creation.

When our desires are brand new, we almost always initially set forth amazingly charged positive emotional intentions for achieving them. It’s only as time goes by that we may find ourselves slipping into our old thought patterns and worrying over when our intentions will manifest. These old ways of thinking are capable of disrupting our previously positive point of attraction.

If we could just leave our desires alone and not over-analyze them, time and again, the Universe would open doors for them to enter quickly into our lives. A great example of this situation, which I’ve applied in my own life, centers on matters of health.

I will sometimes find myself experiencing a negative bodily condition and the more I devote my attention to the ailment, the more pronounced the symptoms become- every single time. Even though I desire to feel better, my consistent attention to the ache or pain causes it to increase. This is a case of my attention to the current situation being more dominant than my desire for an improved condition.

I’m predominantly focusing upon what’s occurring instead of what I actually want to occur. Once I reach a point of being able to shift my attention to other subjects (that make me feel better) and keep my focus within those subjects for varying lengths of time, I begin to notice a decrease in my symptoms.

It can sometimes be extremely difficult to find a better feeling place about an ailment that affects our body, while we continue to think about our body. Distraction can be a powerful form of medicine in these situations. In many cases the best thing we can do is involve ourselves in other activities that completely remove our attention from the focus on the ailment.

Now you may be thinking,”but don’t we have to create the intention that we want to feel better and then hold on to it? What good will distraction do if we don’t adhere to the idea of feeling better?” If you can find the place of what it feels like to be experiencing wellness while you’re hurting, then that would be a great plan. Most people are not capable of hurting and disregarding their pain long enough to find the feeling of wellness and then hold onto it without interruption though.

It’s far easier for them to preoccupy themselves instead. Through distraction their vibration shifts away from the focal point of their illness or pain. They immediately set forth the intention to feel good as soon as they began feeling sick or started hurting and they will continue emanating that feeling throughout their illness.

But that feeling will not physically manifest if they continue to primarily focus upon the situation at hand. What they must now do is find a place to release the resistance that would prevent the wellness from making its way into their lives. And by removing their attention (through distracting themselves) from the ache, pain or illness, they are well on their way to allowing a “healing” to take place.

I’m not advising that people quit seeing their doctors. Doctors serve an important role. They can tend to our wellness through their own methods of distracting our attention. Many times their modalities of treatment work only because they cause us to focus on well being instead of on illness. My posts are not here to replace medical advice but rather they are here in the hopes that you can find your emotional point of well being as a form of preventative medicine, eliminating the need to rely on doctors to provide a distraction for you.

Of course matters of health are only one example of applying techniques for manifesting what we desire through distraction. Preoccupying ourselves can be used to calm or soothe every circumstance in our lives where we are not capable of finding a thought that feels better. Distraction does represent more of an action based decision than emotionally based, but through the action of distraction we are led to better feeling emotions.

Many people believe that to fully utilize the law of attraction they have to be consistently thinking of their desires all day long. This approach is fine, as long as those thoughts lean more toward expectation and anticipation than fear or worry about their desires manifesting.

But again, if we find ourselves in a place of doubt or negativity and reaching for emotional relief feels impossible, then distracting ourselves from the subject can be extremely beneficial. It’s far more beneficial than sitting in a negative emotional state while hoping to draw into our lives our hopes and dreams. If you find yourself struggling to release your negativity in certain situations, give the “law” of distraction a try, prior to returning to the subject that was throwing you off your game.

The key to becoming conscious positive creators is to find the best feeling emotions we can and I have consistently found that distraction will provide a means for doing that. Perhaps there is no better way to change what we look at, than to distract ourselves from it, eventually coming back to it from a much better feeling place. Remember what Wayne Dyer always says, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

I’ve recently been discussing ways in which we have access to empowering ourselves through our own innate mystical means. When I say we, I most definitely include myself because I’m always working through releasing worrisome, fearful, anxious emotions. I’ve come to the realization I was making it a habit to stay hung in undesirable emotional states far too often. Staying in those states was not only extremely counter productive and counter creative (from the manner I truly desired); over time it was taking its toll on my self esteem, and confidence, pulling me away from my center.

There is a positive aspect to my past negative emotional states, however- they allowed me to more clearly define exactly what I desire in life. It’s through this clarity that I feel I have a much sharper image of where my life is headed. I now realize when I experience undesirable emotions; the issue that’s bringing them forth needs to be resolved- within myself. As I find ways to internally resolve those issues, my external life experience moves smoother and my reality begins to take shape in a manner I find more desirable.

While it may seem all well and good for me to talk about working with our emotions to help positively affect our reality, the point may be moot if I’m not touching on why our emotions are so critical for this process to work in the first place. And that’s the focus of today’s entry: why our reality and the experiences we have within it are dependent upon our predominant emotional states.

Picture it: (trying to do my best Sophia impression from the Golden Girls ) You wake at sunup and quietly step out the back door of your home. The brisk morning air feels exhilarating against your skin as your bare feet find their way through the soft, slightly damp grass. Water droplets, from last night’s rain, glisten on the leaves of the garden plant life- magnifying their textures.

Morning songbirds sing out their praise for the new day, deep within the grove of trees a few yards from your home. Standing there, your mind quiets and you lose yourself in joy and appreciation for the moment. The glorious rays of the sun are now ascending the mountainous peaks in the distance.

As your chest rises and falls with each fresh breath, tears begin to stream down your face. You’re suddenly overcome by a deep sense of connection to all things and an amazing awareness of well being and harmony. It feels as if you are being tuned, like an instrument from within- higher and higher until it seems you could burst.

Welling up from deep inside your abdomen, climbing into your chest and head, spilling over into the landscape, it pours forth. It’s in this moment you detect an extraordinary inner sensing and immediate knowledge of who and what you truly are.

The who and what (mentioned in the above block of text) is the key to understanding why our emotions are so important in creating our reality. The who and what is the originator of consciousness itself. The individual in my story has experienced an encounter with the true power that flows through all of us and that is all of us.

She/He experienced it in a relaxed, appreciative, quiet moment, not during a moment of worry, fear or doubt. We have the potential for developing our own reality, and we have been accomplishing this process each and every day of our lives.

But it takes an inner knowing that each one of us is the originator of consciousness to truly be able to tap fully into our intentional creative power and abilities. If we believe that we are some type of underling that is unworthy of our true wants and desires, then our life experience will reflect this attitude and belief.

When we start to understand that we are the judge, jury and executioner of our life experience, then we start taking our own power back. This originator of consciousness (you, me, all of us) isn’t going to shout out to us that we are doing something wrong- because there is no wrong. There is simply creation, for better or worse (depending upon our human interpretations of it).

And the more we focus on our predominant interpretations of it (through our emotional attitude), the more of it we continue to receive. While we may never hear a voice telling us we are doing it wrong, many of us will start to pick up context clues, along the way, helping us realize we can make it much more enjoyable and much easier on ourselves.

Some people may argue that most of us do hear an inner voice or our conscience informing us we are wrong about something. I believe this comes from the fidgety, human brain, and not from a true place of relaxed allowing. My example of the individual in their backyard provides a stark contrast, showing the difference between someone who’s judging themselves and someone who’s relaxed and allowing within the moment.

If we are accustomed to believing that our actions need to be structured in a specific way to be right or correct, then we are going to receive the impression that we are doing something bad when those actions go outside that structure.

I’m not advising anyone to do things that they believe are bad- I’m illustrating the point that the human brain (through conditioning) creates the ideas of good and bad. We live in a society where things are deemed appropriate or inappropriate all the time, but again this is through conditioning, social structures and mores, not because a creator (that’s commonly believed to exist external from ourselves) deems them so.

So, what exactly is this originator of consciousness I keep speaking about and what are its guidelines or conditions for living life? The originator of consciousness has been called many things by many people since time and memoriam: God, Allah, YahWeh, and Krishna, just to name a few, but names and stories could never do it justice.

You are the only one that can fully know it and come to understand who and what it is because its consciousness is unique within each one of us. I would never pretend to know what it is for anyone outside of myself. I’m only suggesting ways in which each of us can get to know it better through our own inner awareness.

I believe that the only conditions and guidelines for life, that it “requires”, are: to experience it and joyfully appreciate it. That may sound extremely simple and not very profound, but again humankind has been trying to over-complicate every aspect of life (especially God) for thousands of years; sometimes the simplest interpretation is the most concise.

We are the physical equivalent or physical interpretation of source consciousness. We are an expression of it. Source consciousness chooses to experience itself in many forms and manners- the human experience being one of them.

The originator of consciousness created us, yet we are also it. It gave itself (us) the ability to create in the same manner it creates, to continue perpetuating the creative experience. We are free to create in whatever way we feel necessary and are doing it on a consistent basis, even if we are unaware of it. When we experience undesirable emotional states and physical experiences we become more aware of what would feel far more desirable for us to experience. And every time we experience anything, whether we deem it appropriate for our life or not, we are adding to the original intention that we set forth to begin with- to simply have the creative experience.

The emotions are the sculpting tool and paintbrush that we have given ourselves to create in this physical environment. We apply paint to the canvas and clay to the sculpture each and every time we experience strong emotional surges within ourselves. The emotions and feelings are truly the tool of god (us). I feel this is why our reality and the experiences we have within it are dependent upon our predominant emotional states.

Today’s entry might feel a little trippy, so before reading any further you may want to break out a tie dyed t-shirt, lava lamp and throw Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” in the 8-track. Wait a minute- I like that song. All kidding aside, I’m going to be discussing human consciousness, its relationship with reality and techniques for altering our current reality. I’ve already ventured lightly into this area in other posts, but it’s here that I want to take this concept a lot further.

Discussing the true nature of reality is one of my favorite subjects because it pertains to all of us. We obviously are all experiencing what we call reality on a daily basis. As long as we are consciously aware of our surroundings and environment, then we are experiencing a form of it. We move through our lives unaware of how profound our interactions are with it, yet all the while something amazing is occurring around us. The real question though, is are we affecting reality or is it affecting us?

To try and answer that question we have to venture into whether or not reality is objectively or subjectively based. The commonly accepted concept is that we are all objectively viewing events external from ourselves, victims of circumstance and at the mercy of a chaotic and haphazard system. The majority of humankind has bought into an objectively based understanding of reality because, on the average, we are indiscriminate voyeurs, absorbing all circumstances and events that come into contact with us. We learn to let the sights and sounds, around us, dominate our attention and our emotional responses. It’s little wonder we develop our view of reality as existing external from ourselves and beyond our control.

You’re probably thinking, “What else am I supposed to view and focus upon, if not what’s prominently displayed in front of my eyes and ears?” It’s not so much that we shouldn’t view and hear what’s around us, as it is the emotional response we allow the sites and sounds to illicit within us. The quicker we recognize this, the quicker we can turn our attention towards things, which are more beneficial in our lives. Or if we are already viewing outcomes that please us, the more we can strive towards keeping them in our awareness.

Since the primary focus of this article is about affecting reality, I feel it’s relevant to also discuss making major life changes (whatever that may entail for each person). When we decide to make a major change in our lives, we have in fact shifted our interpretation of reality. Once the change actually takes place, then an aspect of our reality has been completely altered. Our lives/reality cannot change without first making this shift or the decision to change.

There’s that saying about not being able to teach an old “dog” new tricks, which pertains to this situation. The truth is that age (as long as the dog is healthy) has nothing to do with why the dog can’t learn new tricks. The dog is not set in its ways due to its physical age. It’s set in its ways, due to habits created, as a result of the aging process. It has habitually formed its reality, based upon its past experiences and typically has accepted its current version of reality as its inevitable destiny. In other words, it believes it can’t, so it can’t.

The dog is not willing to break free from its past responses to the stimuli of its environment. Its thought processes and emotional responses are ingrained into pathways in the brain, causing it to continue to repeat and duplicate many aspects of its past reality. As the “dog” gets on in years, it continues to ingrain its past beliefs, thoughts and emotional responses deeper and deeper into its brain, easily activating those responses when circumstances arise, which elicited the same responses in the past.

The most successful people (with regards to changing their lives) have always found ways to alter their thoughts and emotional responses to their undesirable circumstances, breaking past patterns, even in moments of doubt or extreme adversity. This may sound contradictory to my remarks (in past posts) about living in the moment, but it really isn’t.

Living in the moment doesn’t mean allowing the moment and what’s occurring in it, to control you- it means you control the moment i.e. how you feel and what dominates your focus of attention. Once someone makes the shift (or the decision to change), they continue pursuing it, despite what is occurring or being said, by others, about their decision. They understand that their emotional state and thoughts are crucial to achieving the actual change they desire.

Once their emotions are in line with their goals, their actions will flow much easier, resulting in accomplishment and an altering of their reality. As they pursue the change they desire, they find ways of looking towards things that make them feel better, realizing that only through controlling their emotions will their actions flow congruently.

Individuals whose lives never change (in whatever way they’re hoping for) are always the people who continue to let the moment and their thoughts within the moment control them. They look around their reality unaware of just how responsible their observations of events, and their reactions to those events, are for creating their lives and perpetuating the status quo. It’s truly a cycle- they see what they happen to indiscriminately see, therefore they let their emotions run wild concerning what they see, then they continue to see more of what they’re used to seeing, again and again and again.

Someone who feels they are destined to live a life of unhappiness because life (or reality) is out of their control, has been buying into the objective concept. They spend the majority of their time witnessing external events, focusing upon them and believing they have no power to make a change. They allow the moment, the occurrences within it, and their own thoughts and emotions to sit in the driver’s seat, all the while believing reality is just something that happens, outside of their input.

They would be better served to take control of their emotions in the moment and find anything that allows them to feel slightly better than what they were just feeling. If they cannot find something better to focus upon in the moment, then they need to shift their focus away from whatever is occurring as quickly as possible.

A moment here or there may not seem like a big deal, but our lives are only moments built upon more moments. This is why it’s common for spiritual teachers to speak about all of our power being in the moment of Now. It’s when we consistently start taking control over the moment of Now, with regards to how we feel and what we allow our attention to be drawn towards, that our reality will begin to change and unfold in a manner that is far more pleasing to us.

I feel the only difference between a person who is fundamentally happy, the majority of the time, and another who is predominantly miserable is that the happier person has found ways to take charge of their thoughts and emotions. They live in the moment by being aware of their feelings and making adjustments as necessary and if they cannot find a thought that feels better in the moment, they shift their attention towards something that can elicit a more desirable response within them.

They are not controlled by circumstances, events or their emotional response to those events. Again, this is not to say that we should disregard our natural emotional inclination to an event (even if it feels undesirable), but we should move through that undesirable emotion as quickly as possible, not allowing ourselves to get hung up for long periods of time in negative emotional states.

Undesirable emotions are actually good for us. They are red flags and indicators that we are in the process of allowing ourselves to be controlled by the moment and possibly by what others are thinking and feeling. They are informing us of whether or not we are taking an active stance in creating our reality, the way we want it to be, or if we are instead allowing ourselves to be pawns in an aspect of reality that seems to be outside of our own power and control.

I believe it’s also extremely important not to become hooked on other peoples’ emotional responses to anything we do, even if the response feels good. This might sound like a contradiction, since I was just discussing how we should work towards better feeling emotions. However, I was referring to our own natural internal production of better feeling emotions, not emotions motivated by the opinions of others.

When we continuously become enamored and dependent upon the positive comments of others, it’s easy to become hooked on external approval. When that external approval ceases to come, we allow ourselves to get upset or frustrated.

This can lead to our being as equally affected by negative comments. Once we discover the only opinion that ever ultimately matters comes from within, then we can free ourselves from the attachment of the approval or disapproval of others. We can pursue our own desires without fear or repercussion of what anyone else may think.

I’m not suggesting that we become cold to others. I’m suggesting that we release the dependency upon their approval. By letting them off the hook, we also let ourselves off the hook. This in turn will help us to create our reality from a more subjective standpoint, instead of always creating in the shadow of others and their opinions.

If you have been reading some of my past posts, then you know I’ve been discussing how extremely important our internal feedback (through our emotions) is. I believe that each one of us is affecting reality through these internal mechanisms. This is why we are such overly exaggerated thinking, feeling beings. The creation of this Universe and its growth was/is dependent upon thinking, feeling consciousness. If thought and feeling ceased to exist, this entire structure would cease right along with it.

Our thoughts are propelled by what we are feeling in any given moment. A great example of how thoughts translate into reality is when we realize there is not a single item humankind has created, that did not exist initially as a thought. Every physical invention around us had to exist as a thought, prior to becoming an item that can be seen and touched.

Of course action had to be taken to bring them fully to fruition, but without the initial thought, the action would have been impossible. I believe that reality itself follows this same pattern. It’s thought into being and every action we take is merely a follow through of each of our thoughts, bringing those thoughts into existence until they become fully developed physical manifestations.

Even scientists have shown that subatomic particles are affected by human consciousness, through expectations and emotions. However, the question has always been whether or not the behavior of particles at the quantum level could translate into something applicable at our level of existence?

Since the quantum level is simply a micro version of the macro version of our existence, it would seem logical that what works at the subatomic level is working at our physical level as well. Their findings are only starting to scratch the surface, but in the last few decades we have seen a nice blending between science and the concepts many mystical teachers have been espousing for centuries: our thoughts (derived from our emotions) affect reality, which in turn affects life. So we truly are emotional creators, moment by moment, by moment.

I believe reality to be as subjective or as objective as we want it to be. This is the true nature of reality. It’s responsive to us. It mimics and reflects our expectations. It allows us to reap what we sow through our feelings, not in some karmic way, but in a way that what we concentrate upon expands and flows to us and away from us. This is why “bad” things happen to “good” people and vice versa.

It can’t help but be subjective initially in our life experience, as our consciousness interacts with it and programs it with our thoughts and emotions. Over time, as we become habitual in these thoughts and emotions and how we let them run rampant, reality appears to take on an objective form.

It always reflects what we expect to see, and we always reflect back to it our expectations that have been formulated by what we’re seeing- a vicious or glorious cycle depending upon whether we allow life (and the moments therein) to control us, or if we choose to control our response to it.

It’s the ultimate in poetic justice- humankind has spent thousands upon thousands of years externally searching for the meaning and secret of life and it has always been in the last place most would ever think to look- within.
