My Astral Experience With a Tribal Shaman

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

My last post introduced a small portion of information about shamanic practices. In always striving for there to be a method to my madness, throughout all of my blog posts, I like to lay some initial groundwork prior to getting a little weird… and so, it’s once again time for the weird. :)

About three years ago, while experiencing a major influx of intentional and unintentional out of body experiences (OBE), I had one of my most fascinating encounters. It occurred prior to drifting off to sleep, as I slowly entered into the state I like to call the twilight zone. Its technical name is the hypnagogic state, but the twilight zone sounds a lot cooler.

This is where we tiptoe between the waking world and the dreamscape. At certain times I have been able to enter this state while retaining full consciousness, without falling victim to the unconscious sleep state, and that’s what was occurring on this particular occasion. It’s slightly similar to becoming fully lucid, in the midst of a dream, minus all the amazing dream landscapes and scenarios.

The Shamanic Tradition

Monday, August 13th, 2007

When discussing life altering mystical and metaphysical practices, I often find myself coming back to many ancient (nameless) teachers that have been associated with understanding this wisdom for thousands and thousands of years. Tribal peoples, isolated from the influences of the rest of the world, had to rely heavily upon their natural instincts and the exploration of their inner awareness and knowledge.

In doing so, they tapped into the type of universal energy and power that I enjoy discussing and exploring, both in this blog and my personal life. Because of isolation and the time frame in which they lived, they were afforded the perfect opportunity for the development and attunement to the deeper subtleties of existence.

Traversing the Dreamscape

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Our nightly slumber provides far more than just physical rest; it allows us to shift our attention away from our daily lives and enter into alternate landscapes and environments. The “rules” within these environments appear to be as strict or as lax as the dreamer chooses- limitations of the imagination serve as the only law of the land. While the stuff dreams are made of seems hazy and vague at best, it’s only our recall (after the fact) that presents us with the problems of remembering the bright, vivid details. While we are actually submersed in the dream, the experience appears as crystal clear as our waking lives.

For most, dreams seem to play out without much input; however lucid dreamers have full control and access over their nightly journeys. They can plan out, alter and mix up their dreams at will. While I’ve never been much of a lucid dreamer, I have had dreams whose vividness rivaled anything I’ve experienced in my physical world.

Q & A: Qualifications & Religious Avatars

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

I’ve been receiving some emails recently, containing specific questions, about the site and about my views and opinions, on a variety of metaphysical, and even some religious subject matter. So, I decided to feature a couple of them in a question and answer series. I’d love for this to become a regular feature because I feel it helps me to clarify my views on certain subjects and it allows me to cover some grey area that my posts, so far, haven’t quite covered.

It also provides me with an idea of where my visitors are coming from and what areas I may need to be more specific about. If you have questions on anything related to the subjects I regularly discuss and would like to see them featured in an upcoming post, please feel free to send me an email. Your name and email address will always be kept private, unless you request otherwise.

Exploring Reincarnation - Part 1

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

The concept of our awareness continuing on (in some way) after death has been explored through metaphysical investigations, philosophy, literature from both fact and fiction, as well as the odd tale spun over summertime campfires. The majority of this exploration seems to revolve around spirits and what’s waiting for us in the great beyond. But what about what awaits us after the great beyond?

I don’t believe the afterlife is a final destination; it’s more akin to a layover along the way- a really amazing layover, but not the end. It doesn’t make a lot of sense why we would spend X number of years on earth only to then spend eternity in another location. We are all adventure seekers at heart, there’s not one single environment that could ever contain us or satisfy our curiosity forever.
